It is our goal to offer an "always-on" service for the throughput components of the HRSK-II installation. Hence the system design differs from the HRSK-I throughput component "deimos". Taurus consists of a total of three loosely coupled sub-clusters, called islands.

Central Components

  • Login-Nodes of phase 2 (tauruslogin3/4/5.hrsk.tu-dresden.de)
    • 2 Servers (2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v3 each with 12 cores @ 2.50GHz, MultiThreading Disabled, 64 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD local disk)
    • Access restricted to TU Dresden network (use VPN from external machines)
    • IPs: 172.26.94.54/55/56
  • Transfer-Nodes (taurusexport3/4.hrsk.tu-dresden.de, DNS Alias taurusexport.hrsk.tu-dresden.de)
    • 2 Servers without interactive login, only available via file transfer protocols (rsync, ftp)
    • Access to these nodes is granted via IP whitelisting (contact hpcsupport@zih.tu-dresden.de)
    • IPs: 141.30.73.82/83

SMP Nodes - up to 2 TB RAM

  • 2 Nodes each with 4x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-4650L (8 cores) @ 2.60GHz, MultiThreading Disabled, 1 TB RAM, 1 TB local disk
  • 4 Nodes each with 4x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7-4850 v3 (14 cores) @ 2.20GHz, MultiThreading Disabled, 2 TB RAM

Island 1 - Intel Sandybridge CPus (directly water cooled)

  • 270 nodes, each with 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 (8 cores) @ 2.90GHz, MultiThreading Disabled, 128 GB SSD local disk
  • Hostname: taurusi1[001-270]
  • varying amounts of main memory (selected automatically by the batch system for you according to your job requirements)
    • 228 nodes with 2 GB RAM per core (32 GB total): taurusi[1001-1220,1226-1229,1253-1254,1262-1263]
